Saturday, March 15
Serge (Lecompt, my Russian prof) moved in this evening. He was evicted from his house on a temporary basis due to domestic violence. (Or at least the treat thereof.)
Sunday, March 16
We (Serge, Frankie and I) didn't get up very early, but even so we
were on the road out of town by 9:15. (After dropping the beeper
at Scott's, the phone at Chris' and getting some stuff from
Frankie's). We drove Serge's car, since it gets considerable
better gas mileage than the truck! It was a nice, albeit windy
drive to Valdez. The boat was in pretty good shape, no water on
the inside and very dry. We set up the bunks, made some macaroni
and cheese for dinner and then I spent the rest of the evening
studying my organic chemistry.
Monday, March 17
Frankie and I spent the day being nicely unproductive. Serge spent the day in the library. I spent quite a bit of time studying Russian. The weather was cool (15-25F) and very windy (gusts to 55 at the airport). In the evening Frankie and I went swimming…it was a very crowded evening at the pool! In the late evening I studied a little more chemistry.
Tuesday, March 18
Serge went off to the library again, and Frankie and I spent a good bit of the day studying Russian. I spent all evening (about 4 hours) sanding and taping, getting ready to paint part of the inside of the boat.
Wednesday, March 19
Serge took off to the library, and Frankie and I spent about 6 hours finishing the prep work and painting. A lot of work for such a tiny area painted! The first coat really soaked into the wood; I think it is going to take 4-5 coats to really cover & seal it.
We left town about 3, and got into Fairbanks about 10:30.
Thursday, March 20
Slept in until 8, spent a bit of time working on this, and then tackled my Organic Chemistry.
