This is an on-going process, and as yet we have not come to specific conclusions as to the cause of the lake. Some ideas have been rejected (see causes), and other discussions about the geology were considered in the airphoto write-up. Although originally believed to be a steam offset by faulting, it is now believed that the antecedent stream follows jointing planes. See structural notes.
Much more work needs to be done. With luck I shall continue to pursue this over the next few years.
