{previous diary/logbook}

This note is written in March ('97) in something of a hurry, so it is very brief.

Frankie and I drove down to Valdez in September and spent about a week on the boat, mostly relaxing. Then we went on to Anchorage, and then we went back to Fairbanks for a couple of days. Then we returned for a very nice relaxing fall/early winter. The boat tended to be a little cool, but we managed to stay warm with lots of bedding and occasional use of the propane stove (yes, this is rather dangerous, so we bought a carbon monoxide detector which occasionally beeped--especially when cooking). We did a lot of swimming, went to the weekly movie almost every week and spent a lot of time in the library. We also did a bit of work on the boat, mostly wiring. Then, just before we left (around the 24th of November) we dug into sanding. What a mess! Dust everywhere. We only got about 15% of the (total) sanding done; took us about 2 days…we were glad to leave and get away from the dust!
