I have not done a lot of work on this page yet, so pardon any gaps.

The early years

When I was 7 or so the family flew to Tulsa Oklahoma (where my grandmother lived) and bought a GMC Rambler. Which we then drove back to Alaska. This is the earliest trip I remember anything about...

Starting when I was 8 the family converted an old school bus and then every winter for 5 years we'd spent several months touring the 'lower 48' with it. Of course this ment driving the Alaska Highway, so I got to know it pretty well! These trips took me to a majority of the states (about 45) and all the western provinces of Canada.

I was 18 (or so) the first time I took a car trip on my own. I drove the Alaskan Highway with a friend (Greg Coe) to Bella Coola, a place on the coast of British Columbia.

The next trip I took was with a 3 year old boy. We drove from here to Edmonton, Alberta, got on a plane and flew to Montreal and then took a bus to the boy's aunt, where I left him. (I got on a bus and, after a tour of about 15 states, wound up back in Edmonton, and drove back to Alaska.) {The boy flew home at the end of the summer.}

The following summer I took the same boy to see his aunt again; this time I drove all the way--having borrowed the boy's mother's car. (She rode her bicycle all the way!) I bought a car there in Pennsylvania and drove it back (naturally stopping at friends and relatives on the way.)

In the early 1980's I converted an old school bus into a mobile home, which I then drove to the lower '48 with. Unfortunately I broke down in Utah, and it was going to cost more to fix it than it was worth.

In 1984 I did a 14,000 mile marathon (21 day) trip with Matt Jones.

In 1985 I drove to Seattle with DVM. Jan Fenton.  I bought a moving van in Seattle and drove to Utah, where I unloaded my stuff from the old school bus before returning home (I also bought a load of lumber in British Columbia to start our construction company, TANSTAAFL Inc with.)

In 1993 I drove south with the Browns, some friends of mine who have 6 kids. Since I love kids it was a great trip! They dropped me off at my cousin's. After visiting with her for awhile I bought a bus ticket and put 9,000 miles on Greyhound before meeting up with the Browns again for the trip back to Alaska.

There are a few shorter trips missing, but this about covers all the major trips.
